Having recently encountered problems upgrading from Ubuntu 7.04 to 7.10 I decided to do a clean install.
I opted to install the AMD 64 bit version of Ubuntu. I installed the 64 bit version of Ubuntu back in version 6.06 but at the time it lacked 3rd party support. I was interested to see if 64 bit support would be any better with version 7.10.

Overall the upgrade to Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon went smoothly but as with previous upgrades I had display problems afterwards. I’m sure this is just my graphics card but it was disappointing to see no improvement in this area.

Today I upgraded my machine from Ubuntu 6.10 to Ubuntu 7.04, and just like my previous upgrade from Ubuntu 6.06 to 6.10, the whole process went very smoothly. Apart from a couple of minor issues with the new desktop effects, which I’ll go into more detail later in this post, everything else went fine.
With the release of Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn now less than a week away, the next release of Ubuntu 7.10 has been announced, dubbed The Gutsy Gibbon. The Gutsy Gibbon release schedule shows a release date of 18th October 2007.
We’re getting closer to the next release of Ubuntu. Feisty Fawn is due for release on April 19th.
