Thanks for the tip about resetting the sat nav to eliminate a flickering screen, it worked a treat.
I had just received it back from lending it to my sister who advised it had fallen off her dashboard whilst driving so I thought it needed replacing

I made a case for my NVU53G using a Nintendo DS case from Gamestation. It was a Pokemon version that they were selling off for £1.99. It had a plastic holder inside for the DS but a pair of sharp scissors soon got rid of it. The fit is absolutely perfect. Think this is the same http://www.gamestation.co.uk/Accessories/Dsi-and-DS-Lite/Storage-Cases-and-Travel/Licensed-Nintendogs-Carry-Case/~r406607/?d=1z13fwjZ1z13frc

ok i fixed the problem!!! hahaha i was one step before breaking my sat nav... i opened it and i saw that one cable was not connected.... if somebody has the same problem.. you can send me an email..(alexander-klema@hotmail.com) i took a picture of the circuit and i can send it to u. basically there are 2 cables connecting the main board with the screen ... the one is for the display.. and the other one for the 'touching commands'.. so thats it.. quite simple.. the one for the commands is very sensitive.. and easy to fall.. so good luck guys..

TOUCHSCREEN DOES NOT RESPOND nv-u53g
similarly to other 2 guys earlier my touch screen is displaying perfectly but is dead when i am trying to press anything.. the 2 side buttons work but whats the point.
I have had this for 1,5 years. today i just went somewhere to service my car.. it worked fine on my way there.. but then.. after the service was finished.. my stupid satnav wouldnt work at all.. luckily i knew the way more or less.. and the distance was not long..

any ideas?

The suction cup is not very strong and if it falls, the glass screen can easily break.
If the screen breaks, it will not work at all, unless you get a new screen and that can cost $198. minimum from Sony repairs. I recommend using Velcro on the dash only.

Hi all,
I have exactly the same problem with my NV-U73T as Shane reported on dec 05 2008 (post 121-125). Touchscreen not responding etc. Upgraded to latest firmware succesfully, but to no avail. Keeps freezing on home screen and only beeps when pressing 'view' or 'voice/pos' buttons at left of screen. Contacted Sony at customer support site, but they also do not respond... real Sony problem it seems! Nav has been used 3x for 200km trips and a number of times on local trips mainly to keep the battery charged. Apart from not working, as described, evrything is complete and as new. Any offers for the whole lot in original box? P&P from the Netherlands will have to be added.
Regards,
Jan
