The Ubuntu folks have just released a beta version of Ubuntu 7.10 “Gutsy Gibbon”. If you’re interested in sampling what the next release has to offer then check it out.
A few of the highlights are as follows:
- Compiz Fusion out of the box. 3D visual effects will be enabled by default.
- Fast user switching. You can now switch between users without entering a username and password each time.
- Improved Firefox plugin handling. Users can now search and install plugins more easily.
- Graphical Configuration tool for X. Users can now manage video and screen settings like refresh rates more easily.
- Full read and write support to Windows (NTFS) partitions.
- Less power consumption for a greener environment.
Further details can be found on the Ubuntu 7.10 Beta Release page.
The Gutsy Release schedule shows the final release on 18th October 2007. So if you’re like me and want to hang on for the final release there is not long to wait now.
