		<description>The thread is three years old and that first instruction takes you to a 404 because it doesn&#039;t exist any more.

For Ubuntu 8.10+ you can just go here:

http://www.skype.com/download/skype/linux/choose/

Download 32/64 version (if you try to install the wrong one it tells you so get the other) and then just click on it like you would an .exe file in Windows (sorry for swearing) and there will be the option to install it.

If you&#039;re new to Linux, this GUI is probably handier than the command line to begin with.
