If you’re looking for a decent and reliable web host then I would keep Jumpline on your shortlist. I’ve been with Jumpline since March 2007 on their J2-VDS plan and so far I have been extremely impressed with the reliability.
I previously hosted this WordPress blog with TextDrive, but after numerous problems with Apache and my WordPress blog freezing up, I needed something more reliable. Thanks to a recommendation from Doug I decided to give Jumpline a go. I had never heard of this company before but their hosting plans looked good.
Jumpline differ from your conventional web host in that they offer virtual hosting. With traditional shared hosting you have a number of users sharing the same resources. This can work fine, but all it takes is for one careless person to bring down Apache on the shared server and then every other website on the same server suffers.
This is what initially attracted me to the virtual hosting (VDS) plans offered by Jumpline. VDS provides users with their own virtual Linux box which you can do whatever you like with. This virtual box is insulated from all other websites on the same physical machine. You have your own Apache server which you can stop and restart if required and there is no risk of other users bringing down your web site.
Jumpline offer a variety of VDS hosting plans, from the basic J1-VDS up to the J5-VDS. I’m currently using the J2-VDS plan which is ideal for hosting one or more web sites or WordPress blogs.
The J2-VDS plan offers the following:
• 2GB Disk Space
• 30GB Bandwidth Transfer
• 150 POP Email Accounts
• Dedicated IP Address
• Host 20 Domains/Virtual Hosts
• 10 FTP Accounts
All the usual web site development tools are provided including PHP5, MySQL5, PHPMyAdmin, Python, Perl and ASP. Many other applications are provided as well. Jumpline do a good job of keeping these up-to-date too. Full details of the hosting plan can be found here.
When you sign up to one of their hosting plans you are provided with a Customer Manager screen. You can login to this screen using your browser. The Customer Manager screen is used perform basic management of your site.

To manage any aspect of your virtual server (VDS) you need to login to your VDS manager. This screen allows you to manage any aspect of your VDS such as installing applications, managing backups, or restarting your Apache server.

What I like about these screens is that everything is easy to read and manage. I’ve used the web interfaces of several other hosts before but Jumpline is the easiest I have used so far.
Jumpline are currently offering 3 months free hosting which is a good opportunity to try them out. If you’re interested there is an affiliate link at the end of this article.
I have two WordPress blogs hosted with Jumpline and have not had any issues so far. I would definitely recommend them.

I’ve been a customer of Jumpline for quite a few years and I can’t say enough nice things about them! They’ve also personally assisted me through some rough times when it was my code and my site that was causing the problem.
I’m glad you like them! It’s always tough to make a recommendation, but I feel safe doing so with Jumpline.
Thanks for the mention!
