Bez,

I suggest you do one of 2x things. Take the device to your local friendly German teacher at the nearest school or go to http://uk.babelfish.yahoo.com/ and insert the words and translate.

Good Luck

Jess,
The Nuvi 250W is now discontinued. I would consider looking at the newer Nuvi 255W.

You can read my review <a href="http://technical-itch.co.uk/2009/03/10/garmin-nuvi-255wt-sat-nav-review/" rel="nofollow">here</a>.

I am looking to purchase my first satnav at the age of 67, something simple. This model seems to fit the bill, but I am concerned now that I've read it is obsolete. Would it be a mistake? Would it call for expensive updates?

Hi Rod,
The Garmin should serve you well for several years. There shouldn't be any issues with reliability. The only possible area that might go wrong is that the battery may start to not hold a charge for as long after years of charging, although this is not a problem if you always have the Nuvi plugged into your car.

I have heard some people report issues updating the Nuvi 255WT where the newer European maps have become too big for the internal memory to hold the map data of all European countries. Not sure if anyone has hit this issue with the Nuvi 250W though. It's only really an issue if you travel in Europe a lot as you can simply uninstall maps for those countries you never need.

You can see more comments on this issue on the <a href="http://technical-itch.co.uk/2009/03/10/garmin-nuvi-255wt-sat-nav-review/" rel="nofollow">Nuvi 255WT review</a> if you read comment #76.

Hi Dean,
I am happy with the 250w and I don't mind buying the upgraded maps; it's just that I have no idea how reliable sat nav devices can be over a long period of time. Is there a lot to go wrong with these items?

Being an oldie, I'm not really bothered about having the latest bit of technology, and if I knew that the odds were that the unit might last for say another 5 or 6 years, then I'll happily buy the lifetime upgrades.

I know it's a gamble I have to take - if it doesn't fail it could get stolen etc etc.

Many thanks for your help, and congrats on an excellent web site that even I can understand!
