Functionally a 250W bought in China should be the same as your existing 250W and new SD card. It is worth shopping around for the best prices.

I found the price for either download or buying the card is about $120. I will do some search and find how much if I buy a new one in China.

Do you have any comments to compare the existing 250W with the new SD card with the new one i can buy from China from the function, convenience, and other points of view.

You can buy the Chinese maps on an SD card and plug that into your 250W. Here is a link to the Garmin web site.

I am in Canada, and bought 250W two years ago. Now I have to go to China. Please tell how I can use it in there? Should I contact Garmin to download and install Chinese Map?

Please advise.

I have forgotton by pin number -is it possible to access the unit with reseting the pin number.

Hi Rod,
Not sure why the serial number was replaced, it is probably so Garmin can keep track of what units have had the battery replaced. Looking on a few other forums I can see other people who have had the serial number replaced too.

I’ve asked Garmin for a reply but so far have had no response.

Hi Dean,

I have just returned my Nuvi 250W on Garmin’s recall because of the battery replacement business.

It was picked up by UPS on Mon 13th Sept and returned to me today Wed 22nd Sept. That seemed quite a quick turnaround to me – and I was quite impressed, but they say in their covering letter that “Your battery has been replaced, and the unit passed all functional tests. During the process we changed your nuvi’s serial number tag.”
Sure enough, the serial number on the casing is a higher number than my original unit. I wonder why they just didn’t repair my Sat Nav and send it back to me? My original unit had only very light usage – might I have been given someone else’s unit that may have been switched on for 24 hours every day?
Do you think I should tackle Garmin about this, or should I just shut up and get on with it?

I’m charging the Sat Nav up from my computer at the moment so I have no idea whether it is working yet.

D’you know, I used to be very indecisive when I was younger . . . .

Any help or advice much appreciated.
