If you’re finding that the Google Ads on your site are not closely matching your blog post content, then it would be worth taking a quick look at your blog design and layout. It’s possible content elsewhere on your page, such as the sidebar, is distracting Google into presenting mismatched ad content.
Let’s say you write a blog post about the latest marketing innovation, but in your sidebar, you have some text information or links completely unrelated to this topic, such as fast cars or computer programming. It’s possible Google may serve up ads related to your sidebar content rather than your main blog post.
If your blog focuses on a particular niche subject then this may not be such a problem, as all content is closely related. But if you blog on a wide range of topics then it could be more difficult to get Google Ads that closely match your web content.
If you think this is a problem on your web site then this is one technique suggested by Google.
Try modifying your blog template file to help the Google AdSense crawler discover the most important information on the page. For example, in my index.php file I have the following code:

The key piece of information is the Google start and end blocks of text. This marks the start and finish area for the Google AdSense crawler to analyze when serving Google Ads to your site.
There is no guarantee this will work, and if it does work don’t expect results overnight, it could take days or weeks before you see any difference.
Alternatively, if there are particular areas on your blog pages that you want to exclude from the AdSense crawler then try this technique. In this example we use the weight=ignore text to exclude information from the crawler.

I’ve only started using this technique recently, so it is too early to tell if it makes any significant difference. But there is no harm in trying this out, you’ve got nothing to lose and potentially more AdSense income to gain!
Have you had success with this technique or has it been a waste of time?
