We’re getting closer to the next release of Ubuntu. Feisty Fawn is due for release on April 19th.
Looking at the Feisty Release Schedule everything looks on schedule as always. The development team did a great job getting Edgy out on schedule so I have no doubt the same will apply for Feisty Fawn.
Herd 3 has now been released. It is still Alpha software so I won’t be trying to install it yet, but if you are feeling brave then go for it!
There are lots of interesting new features in the Feisty release. The following things caught my eye:
- Epiphany web browser – this uses the same rendering engine as Firefox but more closely integrates with GNOME
- Thunar which is a replacement for the previous file manager
- Better multimedia integration so that Ubuntu will try to install necessary codecs automatically
- Network Manager – a new tool to find and connect to wireless and wired networks
I’m looking forward to the final stable release in April. I intend to upgrade to Feisty fairly soon after the release and will provide a full review of the release then. I had such success upgrading from Ubuntu 6.06 to 6.10, and also doing a clean install of Ubuntu 6.10, that I hope the same holds true for Feisty.
