Everyone has been blogging about this today, but just in case you missed it, WordPress 2.1 has been released. This release includes several new features and over 550 bug fixes which you can read at your leisure using the above link. Technosailor has provided a nice overview of the new 2.1 release if you don’t fancy reading through all the release notes.
Some people have reported the new admin screen being sluggish and others have blogged about being reluctant to upgrade. Personally I won’t be upgrading yet because there are a number of plugins that don’t work with WordPress 2.1.
I’ll be keeping a close eye on developments over the next few weeks to see if those plugins currently incompatible with WordPress 2.1 get fixed. I see no rush in upgrading yet.
One final point. WordPress are shifting to a more frequent release schedule like Ubuntu, with major releases coming several times a year. The next version is due out on April 23rd.
