This is an interesting use of Google Maps. It is called Goggles and is a flight sim that uses Google Maps. You define a starting point from a drop-down list, or you can define your own starting point. You then control a plane using the arrows keys to bank and dive and the A and Z keys to speed up and slow down.
Overall the flight experience is not bad, although it can get a bit ‘blocky’ at times with white squares appearing over the maps if you travel too fast. The game is still in beta at the moment so more updates may be made in the future.
The guy who wrote it has an online portfolio of other games too. Examples are Escape from Pluto where you have to try and control a ship through a maze and Interface Puzzle. These games should keep you busy for a few hours. Nice work
